How many of those who don't know Jesus walk into a church? How many of our churches are engaged with ministry in the workplace?
We spend ~40 years of our lives working. It's the primary place we can engage with those around us. But to do so, we need to have a right view of work, evangelism and discipleship. My job is to come alongside young professionals to develop them as leaders in these areas. To make disciples who make disciples.
Imagine work like an intersection:
With faith: Our attitudes and values of work should reflect our faith, as well as be a witness to others.
With graduates: Helping young professionals into the workforce, and preparing them to succeed. Older professionals can be mentors in their field. For those who were involved with campus ministry, we'll know if that ministry has been successful when they produce fruit in the rest of their lives.
With churches: Helping the church be engaged with the lives of professionals (and therefore the lost), and equipping those working to bring the skills they're learning into their church life.
Joseph studied management and computer science at Waikato Uni, and Penelope law & politics at Auckland. At uni, we were each challenged to grow in our faith, and caught the vision for seeing people come to know Christ!
It was a natural step for us to continue working in this area full-time. We've both served in campus ministry for a number of years: Joseph for 20, Pen for 15. Having helped our ministry with legal needs, Penelope has sensed God leading her into the area of law again, and she's recently started practicing. Joseph is now serving with young professionals.
